Offset Coffee Backstory:
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get more details, but on their website they mention they “…aim to create memorable experiences through bespoke and innovative coffee products. Offset Coffee strives to be more than just your typical cafe. Instead, we aspire for excellence and to become a safe space for community members.”
Taste: 8/10
The Pacific Coast is like drinking a sweet dark chocolate with a tiny hint of stone fruit. At first you get a 60% dark chocolate to a T. Like the exact flavor of Ghirardelli's 60% dark, and then the brown sugar kicks in. Smoothing things away from the more bitter dark chocolate aftertaste. I am a dark chocolate enthusiast, and the way the bitterness is transformed into something slightly sweeter is incredible. This sweetness linger for a bit giving you the feeling you just purchased a caffeinated zero calorie dessert. Then a very slight hint of stone fruit tartness whispers to your taste buds. I would recommend just enjoying this coffee on its own and not feel the need to pair it with any food. If you are a dark chocolate lover like myself, this is dessert, without sugar and 0 calories. It definitely earns 9 out of 10. If you don’t like dark chocolate due to the bitter aftertaste, give this a shot. If you just don’t like the flavor without the bitterness of dark chocolate, this isn’t going to be the coffee for you.
Aroma: 6/10
There isn’t a whole lot to describe here, it’s very dark chocolatey, which if you've smelled chocolate it doesn't smell like a whole lot. It's still a slightly pleasant aroma, but I’m not trying to take any deep breaths. You’re not getting this coffee for the aroma.
Value: 7/10
At $18.00 for a 10oz bag, it’s not the cheapest nor the most expensive coffee, but if you view this as a 0 calorie dessert, which is where the flavor is delivering, then this is delivering some incredible value. Let’s break this down, a 10oz bag yields roughly 20 cups of coffee, which comes out to $0.90/cup of coffee. I drink around 1.5 cups of coffee per day, since my mug is 12oz and two cups is 16oz. That means, I’m spending $1.35 on a 0 calorie dessert that keeps me caffeinated in the morning. Imagine if you could buy a cake like that in a store, there would be a constant line out the door. That’s why it deserves the 9 here.
